(316) 927-2233On Wednesday, May 26th, the state of Kansas was plagued by a bout of severe weather conditions. The stormy weather rolled in around the late morning and brought with it wind speeds of up to 60mph, between 2 and 4 inches of hourly rainfall, golfball-sized hail, and even a tornado.
The historic 24-hour rainfall caused severe flooding in several parts of the state. Multiple roads had to be closed until the water receded, and near McPherson High School, several people were left stranded as several vehicles were stuck in the rising water.
According to the McPherson Fire Department, in less than 24 hours, firefighters conducted seven vehicular water rescues across the county.

In Rawlins County, a massive tornado touched down in the countryside. According to the county’s emergency manager, a homeowner’s roof was entirely ripped off due to the phenomenon.
Three tornadoes touched down in Northern Barton and Rice Counties, causing only minor damage to a homestead in the area.
Hail the size of baseballs crashed down in Ellis County, resulting in several residents experiencing significant roof damage as well as some of the fleet of the Ellis County’s Sherrif Office experiencing some shattered windscreens.
In Ellsworth County, the baseball-sized hail took out a few windows of the homes of residents. Farmers in the area also experienced significant crop damage.
In Saline County, the storm uprooted several trees and also took done many powerlines. The county also experienced some significant rainfall, resulting in flooding near the Salina Regional Medical Center.
