A termination bar on a white membrane roof sealing the cut membrane at a roof-to-wall transition.

Termination Bar

Component - A termination bar (T-bar) is a metal strip used to secure and seal the edge of a roof membrane where it ends against a vertical surface.

Where Termination Bars Are Used

Termination bars are installed where a roof membrane transitions at a wall, parapet, curb, or other vertical surface and cannot wrap over the top. The bar is fastened through the membrane into the vertical surface, securing it in place, and a bead of sealant is applied along the top edge to prevent water from entering behind it.

Because the membrane stops at this point, it relies on mechanical attachment and sealant rather than membrane coverage to prevent water infiltration. As sealants or fasteners fail over time, water can work behind the membrane and lead to leaks at the roof-to-wall transition.
