Everyone has their own unique preferences for a home. Some people want to be cozier, while others prefer sparse, minimalist settings with plenty of natural light. The point is that every homeowner should have the freedom to decide what kind of place they’ll call “home.”
However, you’d be surprised to know that the roof of your home plays a significant role in the comfortability of your home. It regulates your home’s temperatures, protects you from outside elements, and prevents natural disasters from playing out in your home.
If you’ve been considering installing a rooftop on your home for some time now but have no idea what to look out for when doing so, the “2021 Roof Purchasing Study” might be worth looking into.
The “2021 Roof Purchasing Study” is a nationwide survey conducted by Signet Reseach Inc, providing insight into the factors that inform homeowners buying decisions.
According to the study, when it comes to making a roofing purchase, homeowners care about three things: durability, longevity, and weather resistance; in that order.
Since most rooftops last between 30 to 50 years, the study found that most homeowners replace their roofing systems due to severe weather damage. Coming in second for reasons homeowners replace their roofing is the age of their roofing systems. The older rooftops get, the less durable they become, and their weather resistance dwindles.
After a major storm, it’s important to inspect your roof for damage and make sure it will be able to withstand the next one, especially if you live in an area that experiences frequent storms.
When it comes to how much homeowners are willing to pay for their roofing, the study found that while price points are significant points of consideration, people were willing to invest a bit of money to get a highly durable rooftop that will last them decades. Because of the relatively long lifespan of roofing systems, homeowners don’t mind investing large sums of money once or twice in their lives for a high-functioning roof.
The study also found that homeowners are willing to place their faith in their roofer’s knowledge when it comes to picking out the best roofing materials. While 61% of homeowners were, in fact, looking for high-quality roofing materials, 57% were going to make their roofing decisions based on their roofer’s recommendations.
When comparing this study’s results to the 2011 Color Study, the comparison shows that over the span of 10 years, there’s been a significant increase in homeowners valuing the importance of curb appeal and viewing their home’s exterior as a reflection of their personalities.
The roofing color preference has remained consistent over the years, and black remains the top choice. The next most popular colors are grey, followed by brown in third place.
